Ending War
~ Idea 2600 ~

What a blessing it is that I worked so many years in the United Nations and can now live a free, wonderful life devoted to the first UN University for Peace created with my help in demilitarized Costa Rica. The ways of the Lord are indeed mysterious and wonderful. The last years of my life are a miracle which I could have never expected in my wildest dreams, especially not in the depth of the horrors of World War II. I repeat the great words of Goethe:

Until one is committed,
there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back,
always ineffectiveness.

Concerning acts of initiative and creation
there is one elementary truth
the ignorance of which kills countless ideas
and splendid plans:

That the moment one definitely commits oneself
then Providence moves too.

All sort of things occur to help one
that would never otherwise have occurred.

Robert's Golden Sayings
Do not underestimate letter writing: another human being will read you, might be moved and spread your message if it is an honest and beautiful one.

Design your own letterheads and cards proclaiming your basic beliefs.

My Testament to the UN
-A Contribution to the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations, 1995, Chapter 7

Those in power program the people to believe they are powerless and unable to change the world. As a result, those in power remain powerful and the world does not change. Democracy, the exercise of the power of the people is not limited to elections every four or five years. Democracy is the daily exercise of power and communication, or networking with others. Networking is the new democracy.

UPDATE ON TECHNOLOGY INITIATIVES FOR PEACE
AND INVITATION TO JOIN OUR GROUP

Dear Good Morning World

This mail is going to all the people that I have been in touch with since TIP (Technology Initiatives for Peace) was kicked off in April 2005. Some of you I know from my peace involvements. Some I have had the good fortune to meet in person, or speak with on the phone and others are just email and web/blog friends.

There have been lots of activities, lots of new ideas and we have made some very steady progress. The purpose of this note is to bring you up to date.

And very importantly our purpose here is to INVITE you to become part of the conversations to move TIP forward - at a brand new yahoo group called tip-conversations. The link to join the group is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tip-conversations/

Click on the JOIN button at the top right.

** The yahoo group and the website are open to all. So please share this invitation with others you may know might be interested **

Websites

The website providing the primary documents about TIP (the key concepts and call to action, appendices and additional information in the fashion of Q&A) are still hosted at http://www.infinisri.com/TIP

The Gandhi video produced by Italian Telecomm (won the "epica" award) is still such a draw. I have seen it a dozen times while showing to people; it continues to inspire me each time. The Weblog for TIP continues to thrive with quite a few wonderful resource and ideas there. The posts cover a wide range of facets of TIP. Some recent posts there are:

Main Idea

New technologies for promoting freedom, cooperation, human dignity, understanding and mutual trust are needed. Research in Information Technology, Biotechnology and Nanotechnology - needs the guiding hand of humanity striving for peace and harmony. TIP intends to plan and incubate a series of research initiatives that would spawn a new generation of technologies that serve our mutual cause. Eventually envision entrepreneurship and special investment funds for a broad range of technology initiatives. [From the TIP website]

In praise of Most of All, They Taught Me Happiness: "Robert Muller's extraordinary vision, courage and ebullience can't help but engender hope in anyone who hears or reads his words. How, you might wonder, can a man who, as an Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, was within the circles of power in the last half of the bloody 20th century have so much enthusiasm for human possibilities? Somehow he manages to see half full glasses as full glasses in the making. He has inspired my life as I read this book and allow him to do the same for you."
-Vicki Robin, co-author Your Money or Your Life, founder Conversation Cafes.
