The Nobel Prize for Peace should be given in the year 2000 to the United Nations for its remarkable success in practically eliminating international wars.
The Prize should be used by the UN to create means and actions for the solution and reduction of internal ethnic and religious conflicts which still prevail in the world or to endow yearly UN peace prizes.

-A Contribution to the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations, 1995, Chapter 6 | Dag Hammarskjold and a UN journalist were walking back to their offices after a press conference by the Secretary-General. The journalist commented sadly:
"Isn't it a shame that the UN is not taken more seriously. Several newspapers are closing their offices at the UN. The questions put to you were so critical, so unfair. Several non-governmental organizations are also giving up."
Dag Hammarskjold stopped walking, looked sternly at the journalist and said:
"I do not see any problem. You and I remain, and as long as there is one person on Earth who believes and acts for the right course, there is no reason to despair."
