Peace

~ Idea 1350 ~ 22 March 1998

Great cities of the world should establish world prizes for ideals they profess, or great events of their history, or famous citizens who were born there or lived there.

Thus, Kansas City which calls itself the heart of America, possesses a heart forest which I suggested to them years ago. The city could give a yearly prize for World Love. It could have been given to Mother Teresa.

San Francisco, the birthplace of the United Nations could give a yearly Peace or United Nations Prize; New York City a Liberty Prize; Strasbourg in France a Gutenberg Prize; Frankfurt a Goethe Prize, Metz in France a Robert Schuman Prize, etc.

Even a small town like my hometown, Sareguemines in Lorraine, France, could give after my death a yearly Robert Muller Prize to true world citizens.

Robert's Golden Sayings
We must all have a direct line with God, the master and Creator of the universe, cultivate an antenna that sweeps constantly the universe for messages to bring down to Earth. Some day all people will be directly connected with God and will no longer be fooled by power seeking individuals and institutions on Earth.

My Testament to the UN
-A Contribution to the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations, 1995, Chapter 9

Hopefully the second World Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1993 will create a World Spiritual Agency to be associated with the United Nations and help it enhance its spiritual dimension.

For U Thant's spiritual approach to world affairs, see the chapter, How I conceived my Role, in his memoirs, "The View from the UN, (Doubleday). I have also written extensively about him in my books, "Most of All, They Taught Me Happiness" and "New Genesis, Shaping a Global Spirituality".

Hopefully all the world's religions will join governments in the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the UN, and of the year 2000, our entry into the third millennium.

Hopefully, Pope John Paul 11 will visit the UN again in 1994, the International Year of the Family, or in 1995, the fiftieth anniversary of the UN, to give the world his vision of a spiritual third millennium. Prior to his visit he could hold another Assisi meeting to consult the heads of other religions.

The Pope is the only religious leader who can address officially the United Nations since he is a head of state, the Vatican state. He used this privilege only twice in forty seven years.

Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction.
